ANC statement on the decision of the NPA

3 September 2012

The African National Congress welcomes the decision of the National Prosecution Authority to provisionally withdraw the provisional murder charges against the charged miners and release under conditions. This decision will allow the Commission of Enquiry established by the President to do its work and for police to continue with their investigations. We want to reconfirm our confidence in the law enforcement agencies and our judicial system about their capacity to do their work. It is our expectation that at the end of the investigation the outcome will be implemented fully without fear or favour.

We again reiterate our belief that the Commission of Enquiry established by the President will assist all of us to come to a conclusive argument of what happened in Marikana.
