The African National Congress salutes the Congress of South African Trade Unions for a good start at their national conference held at Gallagher Estate in Midrand.
We believe that the retention of the National Office Bearers unchanged and unopposed is a positive and good sign not only of unity but also a sign if political maturity on all the unions affiliated to Cosatu and the general membership of the working class. It augurs well for continuity and uninterrupted servicing of all unions. It has indeed put all prophets if doom to dustbins of history where they actually belong.
This show of unity will impact positively on the focus in discussing substative policy issues that will take the labour movement, the working class, the Tripartite Alliance and the country forward.
We take this opportunity to congratulate the returned leadership and wish them well in the task of growing and consolidating workers` unity. Their re-election is a confirmation of their leadership and ability to steer Cosatu in the right direction.
As the conference proceeds to consider the election of the rest of the national executive and engage in crafting policies, we believe that they will do so with maximum success.
