ANC Secretary General distance himself from Botswana Gazzette media report about BNF

29 August 2012

The African National Congress, Secretary General, Cde Gwede Mantashe, distance himself from the media report by Botswana Gazzette, published today 29th August 2012, titled, "South Africa`s ruling African National Congress (ANC) has disowned the Botswana National Front (BNF)".

The report as contained in this newspaper is fallacious and a skewed reflection of the ANC`s position with regard to the Botswana National Front (BNF). The ANC has long standing relations with the BNF, cemented by many years of our common struggle for freedom. Some founding members of the BNF were members of the ANC and fought many battles side-by-side with the ANC.

However, the ANC has raised with the BNF the need to engage more formally. This will include avoiding meeting by accident and engaging in a systematic way.
